This theoretical course introduces students to the foundational concepts and tools of critical thinking through the study of key documents and real-life applications. It aims not only to familiarize students with definitions and principles but also to encourage active discussion and analysis of various situations using critical thinking strategies.
Critical thinking involves the careful use of reasoning to determine what is true or false and to construct well-supported positions on a range of issues. In this course, students will develop the ability to evaluate arguments both abstractly and concretely. The abstract component will introduce formal logic, where students will translate arguments into symbolic form and assess their validity through structured analysis. The concrete component will focus on everyday arguments, helping students apply informal reasoning techniques to real-world examples.
Students will also examine common errors in reasoning and explore rhetorical and emotional influences on judgment. By the end of the course, students will be able to construct, analyze, and critique arguments more effectively in both written and spoken communication.
